Cohia is a platform born out of a need for greater transparency in the fashion and beauty industry, where sustainability is the norm and longevity is the key. Like you, we care deeply about the welfare of our planet and all the humans and animals living on it.
The products and brands we share on our site have to fit into at least one of our 6 categories, however we always aim to include brands and feature products that fit into more than just one. All the brands included on our platform have been carefully reviewed and selected for their commitment to sustainability without compromising on aesthetics (as the more you love a product the longer you will keep it for). There are general conditions such as transparency (meaning that the brand has shared traceable information on their product’s supply chain and components), cruelty-free animal practices and humane working conditions.
When featuring brands in each of our categories we rely on publicly available information on the brand, including information on the brand’s own website, other publications on the brand as well as the certifications the brand has. Furthermore, we cross reference our own categorisation with other sustainability criteria sources such as Re/make, the Sustainable List and the Good On You app. Our sustainability categories are us follows:
Brands in this category use natural organic fabrics such as linen, cotton, hemp and cruelty-free wool. Beauty brands in the category use organically farmed ingredients with no synthetic colours, dyes or fragrances, nanoparticles and parabens.
UPCYCLED AND RECYCLED MATERIALS
This category includes brands which use upcycled and recycled materials in their garments (or in the packaging of beauty products) therefore reducing the harmful impacts of production.
Brands in our local production category are focused on sourcing and producing their products in their own communities and countries (therefore reducing their carbon footprint) as well as investing back into their local communities.
This category constrains brands that are taking conscious steps to reduce waste across their production process as well as their packaging. The certifications we consider when including brands in this category include the Global Recycle Standard, the Recycled Claim Standard and Cradle to Cradle.
Within this category, you can explore brands that are committed to using environmentally conscious technologies, fair labour practices and intentional processes that meet internationally-recognized sustainability standards such as the EU Ecolabel and Bluesign standards.
The brands in our vegan category do not contain any animal products or ingredients derived from animals. We include brands with various international and regional vegan certifications such as the V-label and the Certified Vegan Logo.
